Ingredients

1 cup water

2 tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 neat egg (prepare according to package instructions to equal one egg)

Oil for frying (a neutral oil like canola or vegetable oil works best)

1/4 cup sugar, for coating

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, for coating (optional)

Directions

Prepare the Churro Dough:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
Stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball.
Add The neat Egg:
Once the dough is slightly cooled (warm to the touch but not hot), add the ‘neat’ egg substitute. Mix well until the egg is fully incorporated and the dough is smooth.

Heat Oil:
In a large skillet or a deep fryer, heat oil to 375°F (190°C). The oil should be at least 1.5 inches deep.

Pipe Churros:
Spoon the churro dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Carefully pipe strips of dough into the hot oil. Use scissors to cut the dough into desired lengths.
Fry the churros, turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown on all sides, about 2 to 4 minutes.

Cinnamon Sugar:
While churros are frying, mix 1/4 cup sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a shallow dish. (If you do not like cinnamon, you can skip this part).

Coat Churros:
Drain the fried churros on paper towels briefly. While they are still hot, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.

Serve:
Serve churros warm with vegan chocolate sauce for dipping if desired.

Tips:
Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying to prevent the churros from becoming oily.
Piping hot churros directly into the oil helps them maintain their shape better.
If the dough is too stiff to pipe, you can add a small amount of warm water to soften it.
Enjoy your vegan churros, perfect for a snack, dessert, or a festive gathering!
